RCCG Rumuokwurushi Members Protest Frequent Pastor Changes, Threaten to Shut Down Parish
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Tension has gripped the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Showers of Blessing Parish, Rumuokwurushi, Port Harcourt, after worshippers openly protested what they described as excessive and disruptive pastoral transfers.

Akahi News gathered that in the past year alone, five different pastors have reportedly been assigned to the parish, sparking anger among members who claim the constant changes have destabilised church activities.
Viral Video Shows Congregants Protesting
A viral video circulating on social media shows church members blocking the entrance of the parish while demanding the reinstatement of their previous pastor. Chants of “Bring back our pastor!” and “We will shut this church down!” echoed in the background as worshippers accused the leadership of politicising pastoral assignments.
“How Can You Change Five Pastors in One Year?”
One visibly frustrated member questioned the rationale behind the frequent transfers, saying:
“How can you change five pastors in one year? Are we not part of this church again? We need our pastor back!”
Members insist the constant reshuffling has disrupted the spiritual and administrative stability of the parish, leaving them feeling alienated from the decision-making process.
Leadership Yet to Respond
As of press time, RCCG leadership is yet to issue an official statement addressing the protest or explaining the reasons behind the multiple transfers.
Observers believe the church hierarchy will need to intervene swiftly to prevent the crisis from escalating and to restore calm among congregants.
While pastoral transfers are common within RCCG as part of its administrative structure, members argue that such decisions should be balanced with the need for stability and growth at the parish level.
The unfolding situation at Rumuokwurushi Parish highlights the delicate relationship between church leadership and congregational expectations, especially in matters involving spiritual guidance and pastoral continuity.
