Rev. Fr. Patrick Kunle Ajayi Highlights Theological Significance of Marriage as a Sacrament of Service
Ede, Osun State – May 1, 2025 –

Rev. Fr. Patrick Kunle Ajayi, Diocesan Chaplain of the Marriage, Family and Human Life Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, has emphasized the theological importance of marriage as a sacrament of Christian ministry and service.
In an exclusive interview with Iyaji Joseph, host of the Yahe-Yala People’s Forum, Fr. Ajayi shared deep insights into the spiritual foundation of matrimony following the successful conclusion of Phase 1 of the 2025 Marriage and Family Life Training, held at Our Lady and St. Kizito Pastoral Centre, Ede, Osun State.
Speaking on the need for the programme, the cleric described it as “therapeutic to families,” explaining that such spiritual formation offers couples the opportunity to rediscover the sacred call embedded in the sacrament of matrimony. According to him, marriage is not merely a union of companionship but a divine mission of service—both in the home and within the wider Church community.
He further stated that when couples understand and live out their marital commitment as ministry, they not only strengthen their own families but also contribute to the healing and evangelization of society.
The programme, organized by the Diocesan Marriage, Family and Human Life Commission, brought together dozens of couples for a time of prayer, instruction, and renewal, with teachings grounded in Church doctrine and pastoral care.
Fr. Ajayi concluded by encouraging more couples to participate in future phases of the programme, noting that “a well-formed family is the seedbed of vocations, peace, and societal transformation.”
