On the 6th of August, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parakin, Ile-ife, during the Mass of the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Rev. Fr. Peter Oluseyi Adeyemi, the Dean of Priests in Ife Deanery, Osogbo Catholic Diocese, delivered a powerful message about the significance of the Transfiguration.
In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Adeyemi emphasized that the Transfiguration challenges every individual to undergo internal transformation. Just as Jesus was transformed on Mount Tabor, each of us is called to experience a profound change within ourselves. This transformation enables us to open our eyes to the heavenly realities and perceive the things of God.

The event of the Transfiguration was a pivotal moment in which the identity of Jesus Christ was confirmed, and His ultimate mission on Earth was revealed. The presence of Moses and Elijah alongside Jesus symbolized the law and the prophets, signifying the importance of adhering to God’s commandments and listening to the true prophets of God.
Fr. Adeyemi stressed the significance of recognizing Jesus as the Son of God and emphasized the need to listen to Him to establish a close relationship with God. Just as the first three disciples experienced God’s divine presence during the Transfiguration, we, as Christians, can also encounter God’s glory if we accept these truths and strive for inner transformation.
According to the priest, Christians are called to reflect God’s image and shine in their communities. This responsibility stems from the fact that believers share in the image and glory of God. Fr. Adeyemi encouraged the congregation to grasp the reality of inner transformation and actively renew their faith in Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Drawing from the Gospel of Matthew 17:1-9, Rev. Fr. Peter Oluseyi Adeyemi used the scriptural account of the Transfiguration to illustrate his teaching. He explained that the Transfiguration provides a fresh opportunity for believers to strengthen their faith in Jesus’ lordship.
In conclusion, Rev. Fr. Adeyemi urged the congregation to embrace the lessons of the Transfiguration and strive for inner transformation. By doing so, they would be better equipped to live in harmony with God’s laws and follow the guidance of true prophets. Through these actions, they could truly experience the presence of God in their lives and be a beacon of light in their communities.

Prayer of the faithful
During the prayer of the faithful, a solemn moment of intercession and unity, four chosen individuals step forward to represent the entire congregation. With hearts filled with humility and hope, they raise their voices in fervent prayer, seeking God’s divine intervention and transformative grace for specific aspects of society.
The first representative bows their head, earnestly praying for our religious leaders. They implore God to grant wisdom, discernment, and a deepening of faith to those who shepherd the flock. May these leaders be guided by the Holy Spirit, leading their communities with love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to God’s teachings.
Next, another person steps forward, their voice resonating with sincerity, as they lift up prayers for our communities. They ask for God’s grace to mend broken relationships, heal divisions, and foster a spirit of unity among all residents. May the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood be strengthened, and may love and understanding prevail in every corner of society.
As the prayer continues, the third representative humbly seeks God’s transformative power for our political leaders. They pray for wisdom and integrity to guide their decisions, that they may lead with justice, compassion, and humility. May the leaders be open to the needs of the people they serve and work tirelessly for the common good.

They ask for divine guidance and protection over the universal Church, its clergy, and its faithful. May the Church continue to be a beacon of hope and a source of comfort for all who seek solace in their faith. May it always shine forth as a light of love and compassion in a world often clouded by darkness.
Together, the four representatives, representing the entire congregation, beseech the Almighty with a united voice. Their prayers rise like incense to the heavens, carrying with them the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of all present. They trust in the power of God’s transformative love to heal, strengthen, and renew every aspect of society.
