Senate Committee Chairman Urges Nigerians to Return to Farming, Boost Food Production

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry, Francis Fadahunsi, has called on Nigerians to embrace farming and increase food production as a strategy to combat the rising hunger currently affecting the country.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Ilase-Ijesa, Osun State, Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, praised President Bola Tinubu for acting on advice aimed at poverty reduction. He expressed optimism that Nigerians would experience relief before the end of the year.

“I am farming. Everybody should farm. If there is no hunger, automatically, we will be thinking right. The development is coming,” Fadahunsi said. He also highlighted the President’s recent directive to governors to invest deeply in local areas, emphasising that those who fail to do so risk losing credibility given the substantial federal allocations available to states.

In addition to his advocacy for agriculture, Fadahunsi urged all eligible Nigerians without a Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR). He revealed that he has been actively mobilising communities, engaging traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders, to ensure widespread registration.

He added, “We are urging people in the community to register. Including longtime settlers, Hausa farmers, Fulani herdsmen, and the Igedes. They all must register and get a PVC.”

Fadahunsi’s statements underscore a dual approach to national development: boosting local food production while encouraging civic participation ahead of future elections.
