According to information made available to Akahi News, soldiers drawn from the Obajana and Kabba patrol bases were deployed on a fighting patrol to Ankomi village in the Adankolo general area, following credible intelligence reports.

A military source disclosed that the village, which had previously served as a hideout for suspected bandits, was found deserted upon arrival, suggesting the criminals had fled ahead of the troops’ advance.

Victims Rescued, Bodies Recovered

The source revealed that during an extension of the operation towards the riverine axis, troops intercepted three women and two children. Preliminary debriefing confirmed that they were among victims abducted during the Ayetoro Kiri kidnapping incident.

“Troops further exploited the area and discovered two decomposing bodies suspected to be those of abducted persons,” the source said.

One of the bodies was successfully evacuated, while efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining remains from the difficult terrain.

Medical Attention and Ongoing Investigation

Akahi News gathered that the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention at Fisayo Hospital in Obajana, while the deceased woman has been deposited at St. Joseph Mortuary in Kabba, Kogi State.

The victims are also undergoing debriefing to assist security agencies in tracking other abducted persons and identifying criminal routes used by the perpetrators.

Security Situation and Military Assurance

Although the general security situation in the area was described as relatively calm, military sources cautioned that it remains unpredictable. However, they assured that troop morale and operational efficiency remain high.

According to the source, operations are ongoing, with security forces maintaining pressure on criminal elements to ensure the safe rescue of remaining victims and the restoration of stability across the affected communities.

The latest operation underscores the Nigerian military’s continued efforts to confront kidnapping and armed criminality in parts of the country. While the rescue offers relief to affected families, authorities insist that sustained operations are necessary to prevent a resurgence of criminal activity in Kogi and neighbouring areas.
