SSS Files Six Charges Against Nine Terror Suspects Over Benue Attacks

The State Security Service (SSS) has filed six separate charges against nine terror suspects accused of carrying out deadly attacks in Benue State and other parts of northern Nigeria.
According to details filed by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Muhammad Abubakar, the suspects face allegations of killings, arms trafficking, and unlawful possession of firearms — offences punishable under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.
Yelwata Attack and Main Suspects
Two prime suspects, Haruna Adamu and Muhammad Abdullahi, both from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, were arraigned on four counts linked to the Yelwata massacre in Guma LGA, which left several people dead and others injured.
The charge sheet revealed that they conspired with other suspects — Musa Beniyon, Bako Malowa, Ibrahim Tunga, Asara Ahnadu, Legu Musa, Adamu Yale, Boddi Ayuba, and Pyeure Damina, alongside others still at large — to launch coordinated terror attacks in Abinsi and Yelwata between June 13 and 14, 2025.
The SSS further accused them of withholding critical intelligence that could have averted the killings.
Reprisal Attacks
Two other suspects, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede, both from Guma LGA, Benue State, were also arraigned on a three-count charge for allegedly participating in reprisal attacks connected to the Abinsi and Yelwata incidents.
They were accused of attending meetings that led to acts of terrorism, including destruction of property and the killing of 12 cattle in Ukpam village.
Arms Trafficking and Support for Terrorism
A 32-year-old woman, Halima Haliru Umar, from Faskari LGA, Katsina State, was charged with concealing information about a suspected gunrunner and transporting 302 rounds of AK-47 ammunition for bandits in July 2025.
Meanwhile, two men from Plateau State, 75-year-old Nanbol Tali and Timnan Manjo, face a four-count charge for allegedly purchasing and reselling two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles worth ₦3 million, along with revolvers supplied to bandits.
Another suspect, Silas Iduh Oloche, from Agatu LGA, Benue State, faces a six-count charge for unlawful possession of 18 grenades and 683 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition as of August 2, 2025.
No Trial Date Yet
While the SSS confirmed that all nine suspects are in custody, no official trial date has been set.
