Super Eagles’ Group-Stage Bonuses Fully Released, Payments Expected Within Hours

The Federal Government has confirmed that all group-stage bonuses owed to the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) have been fully processed, with funds expected to reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours.

The disclosure was made on Thursday by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, who addressed recent reports suggesting that the national team might boycott training sessions or even decline to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final clash against Algeria.

In a statement shared on her official X handle, Uzoka-Anite reassured that concerns over unpaid bonuses had been resolved through coordinated efforts between the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice,” the minister said.

She explained that all bonuses earned during the group stage had been cleared through the necessary regulatory procedures.

“All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages,” she added.

Fast-Track Payments in Foreign Currency

Highlighting the government’s efforts to meet the players’ preferences, Uzoka-Anite noted that a fast-track conversion process had been introduced to ensure payments were made in foreign currency.

“We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences,” she stated.

According to the minister, the final stage of the payment process is currently underway, with transfers to the players’ domiciliary accounts already in progress.

“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday),” she added.

Focus on Team Welfare and Performance

Uzoka-Anite emphasised that the government remains committed to the welfare and morale of the Super Eagles as they advance in the tournament.

“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds,” she said.

The minister further reassured that off-field issues would not be allowed to distract the players, underlining the government’s determination to see Nigeria lift the AFCON trophy.

“We move forward with one goal: Bringing the trophy home!” she declared.

The update is expected to ease tensions within the squad and allow the Super Eagles to focus fully on their quarter-final fixture against Algeria. With preparations now back on track, Nigeria’s hopes of progressing further in AFCON 2025 have received a timely boost.
