Tinubu Welcomes PETROBRAS’ Return as Nigeria, Brazil Sign Five MoUs to Deepen Economic Ties
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the imminent return of Brazilian energy giant, PETROBRAS, to Nigeria, describing it as a major boost for bilateral relations and investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector.

The President spoke during the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Nigeria and Brazil aimed at strengthening economic cooperation across key sectors, including energy, aviation, trade, and technology.
As part of the new agreements, Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace, is set to commence direct flights from Lagos to São Paulo, opening a critical air link between West Africa and South America. The development is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between both nations.
President Tinubu noted that PETROBRAS’ return marks a renewed confidence in Nigeria’s business environment, particularly following ongoing reforms in the oil and gas sector. He assured the Brazilian government and private investors of his administration’s commitment to creating a stable, transparent, and competitive market.
The agreements were signed on the sidelines of high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at expanding Nigeria–Brazil ties, with both sides pledging to deepen collaboration in infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
Analysts say the new MoUs could unlock multi-billion-dollar opportunities, positioning Nigeria and Brazil as strategic partners in global South-South cooperation.
