Trent Alexander-Arnold Doubtful for Real Madrid’s Champions League Clash with Juventus
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Real Madrid’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to training after a month-long injury layoff, but manager Xabi Alonso has expressed doubts about his readiness for Wednesday’s Champions League encounter against Juventus, Akahi News reports.

The English defender, who has missed six consecutive matches due to a hamstring injury sustained during Real Madrid’s clash with Marseille in mid-September, has been working on a gradual return to full fitness. Despite his progress, Alonso insists the 26-year-old is unlikely to feature midweek, according to Akahi News.
Alonso Provides Fitness Update
Speaking during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Alonso stated:
“We’re going to take it day by day. Trent and [Dani] Carvajal have done some work. Looking ahead to tomorrow, I don’t think they’ll be ready.”
The Real Madrid boss also confirmed that he would provide a final update on Alexander-Arnold’s condition on Saturday — a day before the highly anticipated El Clasico against Barcelona. As Akahi News gathered, the Liverpool academy graduate’s recovery timeline is being closely monitored, given the demanding fixtures ahead.
Return to Anfield Still Possible
Akahi News learnt that Real Madrid are scheduled to face Liverpool at Anfield in a fortnight, a game already billed as Alexander-Arnold’s emotional homecoming to his boyhood club. However, with his current fitness status, there are growing concerns about whether he’ll be fully ready for that iconic return.
Should the right-back miss the Juventus clash, he will have just two opportunities — against Barcelona on Sunday and Valencia the following week — to regain match sharpness before the Liverpool trip.
Injury-Laden Start at Madrid
Since joining Real Madrid, Akahi News notes that Alexander-Arnold has struggled for consistency. He has made only five appearances so far, with three coming as late substitutes. His battle for the right-back position against Dani Carvajal has limited his minutes, even before the injury setback.
Last season, while still at Liverpool, he featured in 49 matches across all competitions, despite ankle and hamstring issues hampering his campaign. His move to Madrid was meant to mark a fresh start, but injuries appear to be slowing that momentum.
According to Akahi News, Real Madrid remain hopeful that the England international will recover in time to play some part in their upcoming fixtures. A return to full match fitness before the Liverpool tie would not only boost Madrid’s defence but also mark a special reunion for the player who spent his formative years at Anfield.
For now, the Madrid medical team is focused on ensuring his complete recovery rather than rushing him back into action. Fans worldwide — and especially those at Anfield — will be watching closely as the countdown to his potential comeback continues.
