Troops Neutralise Over 50 Terrorists, Foil Multiple Attacks in Borno and Yobe

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled multiple coordinated attacks by terrorists in Borno and Yobe States, killing over 50 insurgents and recovering a significant cache of weapons. The fierce confrontations, which occurred in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko, were fought under the operational command of Sector 1 (Borno) and Sector 2 (Yobe) between midnight and 4 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the Nigerian Army, the troops fought “gallantly and professionally,” standing firm against the heavily armed insurgents who attempted simultaneous strikes on military and civilian targets. The operations, supported by precision airstrikes from the Air Component Command of OPHK, dealt devastating blows to the terrorists.

Massive Blow to Insurgents in North-East

Akahi News gathered that the well-coordinated ground and air response resulted in the neutralisation of more than 50 terrorists. Intelligence reports revealed that some of the attackers in Dikwa and Gajibo had infiltrated from the Cameroon border axis, while those who launched the Katarko assault advanced from the notorious Timbuktu Triangle — a known terrorist stronghold.

Recovered items from the operation included 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two general-purpose machine guns, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. The military also disclosed that over 70 wounded insurgents were being trailed by troops conducting follow-up clearance operations.

Army Commends Troops’ Bravery

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK), the Nigerian Army commended the gallantry, professionalism, and resilience of the troops. Despite sustaining minor injuries, the affected soldiers are reported to be in stable condition.

“The combined ground and air operations resulted in the neutralisation of over 50 terrorists across all the locations,” the statement read, adding that the Nigerian Air Force’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platforms were instrumental in detecting enemy movement and guiding precise air strikes.

Akahi News learnt that while parts of Dikwa and Mafa sustained minimal damage from rocket-propelled grenades and drone attacks, the quick military response prevented what could have been a devastating night raid on civilian settlements.

The military high command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the fight against terrorism, vowing to sustain aggressive operations to restore lasting peace to the North-East. Akahi News also reports that the Defence Headquarters has urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security forces, emphasising that civilian cooperation remains critical in the battle against insurgency.
