The highly anticipated Free Medical Outreach of the 2025 Ukelle Cultural Festival commenced successfully on day one, bringing relief and healthcare services to residents across the three zones of the Ukelle Nation in Cross River State. The initiative, part of the festival’s commitment to community welfare, saw an overwhelming turnout, leaving beneficiaries filled with gratitude and joy.

Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State demonstrated strong support for the programme by assigning his Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, to officially flag off the Medical Outreach. In his address, Dr. Ayuk reassured participants that the state government is committed to improving healthcare infrastructure in Ukelle, promising that a befitting General Hospital would be established in the near future.

The outreach programme caters to a wide range of medical needs, including routine check-ups, treatments, and even surgeries. Across the various centres—including Wanihiem-Wanikade, Wanokom-Igede, and Mfuma-Ntrigom—the response was remarkable. Health seekers thronged the centres, eager to access quality care, while medical practitioners, led by Dr. Stephen Ogbudu, were fully prepared to manage the large influx of patients efficiently.

Residents expressed deep appreciation for the organisers of the festival, acknowledging the Medical Outreach as a significant gesture of goodwill and community service. Many described the initiative as life-changing, noting that it brought essential healthcare services closer to the people, reducing the need to travel long distances for treatment.

The first day of the Medical Outreach set a high standard, with organisers promising continued support throughout the festival period. Observers noted that the integration of cultural celebration with community healthcare underscores the festival’s holistic approach to societal development, blending tradition with practical interventions that directly impact the well-being of Ukelle citizens.
