VDM Questions Lagos’ Monopoly on Airports and Seaports, Calls for Infrastructure Distribution Across States
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Social commentator VDM has once again sparked online conversations after releasing a new video suggesting that Lagos State’s dominance in infrastructure, particularly airports and seaports, is creating economic imbalance across Nigeria.

VDM observed that Lagos currently hosts the only major functioning international airport and seaport through which most goods from abroad are imported. He argued that this monopoly unfairly advantages Lagos, generating more revenue for the state while leaving other regions economically disadvantaged.
“If we have a seaport in Kogi to serve the North, and another in Delta for the South and East, it will ease business stress and create more job opportunities across the country,” VDM remarked in the video.
He also called on political leaders from the South-East and South-South to push for the establishment of a fully functional international airport in Enugu and additional seaports in other regions.
VDM suggested that this decentralisation would not only boost economic growth but also address long-standing grievances in regions like the South-East, noting that some agitations, including those calling for Biafra, stem partly from feelings of economic neglect.
His comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some supporting the call for regional development, while others argue that the focus should be on improving existing infrastructure before expanding further.
