Popular Content Creator Decries Targeting of Youths with Exotic Cars
Nigerian content creator and comedian, Aloma Junior, popularly known as Zicsaloma, has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force of harassment and extortion during routine tinted glass permit checks in Lagos.
In a viral video shared on Friday, the entertainer alleged that officers repeatedly stopped him because he drove a Mercedes-Benz, claiming that young Nigerians with luxury cars are unfairly stereotyped as fraudsters.
“I want to sell my Benz, not because I am broke, but because of the Nigerian Police. How can you people stop me more than five times in one day? I showed them my tinted permit from your website, but they still claimed it was fake,” he recounted.
Police Officers Allegedly Dismissed Valid Permit
According to Zicsaloma, officers dismissed his valid permit and attempted to extort money from him. He narrated how one team of operatives jumped into his vehicle, insisted on taking him to the station, and later tried to handle the matter “behind the station.”
The entertainer explained that he was only released after the officers realised he was recognised by members of the public at Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah. He further revealed that his ordeal continued at four more checkpoints, where he was again subjected to repeated stops despite presenting complete vehicle documents.
“It’s just because of the Benz I am driving. It’s not always Benz that can commit a crime. I am tired; the stopping is exhausting. That’s why I rarely drive my Benz,” he said.
Similar Cases of Harassment Reported
Akahi News learnt that Zicsaloma’s ordeal came less than 24 hours after another Nigerian, Cletus Onyekachi, accused officers of the Rivers State Police Command of assault and extortion over an expired tinted glass permit. Onyekachi, who appeared in a video with a bandage on his head, alleged that officers demanded N1 million from him despite the Inspector General of Police’s extension of permit validity to October 2025.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, disclosing via X that the officers involved had been arrested and detained for disciplinary action.
IGP’s Extension on Tinted Glass Permits
It will be recalled that Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier extended the deadline for tinted glass permit enforcement from 12 August 2025 to 2 October 2025, citing a surge in online applications.
The rising cases of harassment linked to tinted glass checks have sparked renewed calls for accountability within the police force and proper implementation of the IGP’s directive.
