Anambra Governorship Race: Ekwunife Tells Soludo ‘Government House Not Your Inheritance’
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The political temperature in Anambra State rose sharply on Monday as Senator Uche Ekwunife, Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), delivered a scathing critique of Governor Charles Soludo’s administration, declaring that the Anambra Government House “is not a family inheritance” and insisting that power must change hands in the November 8 governorship election.

Speaking at a gathering of APC members in her hometown of Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area, Ekwunife accused Governor Soludo of presiding over what she described as “a regime on autopilot,” marked by poor governance, security lapses, and negligible developmental impact.
“Governor Soludo and I have no personal feud,” she clarified. “The truth is that what he currently holds — the governorship — is what we are contesting for. The Nigerian Constitution provides a four-year term for elected governors. If you perform well, you’re re-elected. But in Soludo’s case, he’s clearly lost control of governance.”
‘Crying All Over the Place’
Ekwunife accused the governor of abandoning the core duties of leadership for personal attacks, alleging that her name is constantly dragged into political disputes.
“Instead of concentrating on leadership, the governor has been crying all over the place and dragging my name into everything,” she said. “We’re not bothered by his tantrums. The last four years have been like an autopilot regime — no direction, no impact. He even rushed to occupy the yet-to-be-completed Government House, which shows how desperate and nervous he is about losing.”
She stressed that no political office is a permanent seat, adding that the APC is ready to provide “a credible alternative to Ndi Anambra” in the forthcoming election.
“Government is not a private enterprise. When one tenure ends, another begins. Transitions are natural, and it’s time for a change in Anambra State,” she declared.
APC Eyes Connection to National Politics
Also speaking at the event, former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh, highlighted the strategic importance of the November poll, urging Anambra voters to seize the chance to align with Nigeria’s mainstream political leadership.
“This is a critical moment. Anambra must connect with national leadership, and the APC provides that path,” Ikoh stated. He called for massive support for the APC ticket of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife, expressing confidence that the party’s growing grassroots presence and backing from influential stakeholders could deliver victory.
The November 8 governorship contest is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested in the state’s recent history, with political analysts predicting a heated battle between Soludo’s All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the APC, and other major parties vying for control of the Government House in Awka.
