Teachers Express Loyalty as Election Approaches

In a spirited show of support, hundreds of Anambra teachers under the Post Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC) on Monday, 3rd November 2025, took to the streets of Awka to rally behind the re-election bid of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, just days ahead of the state’s governorship election slated for Saturday, November 8.

Government Promises Continued Investment in Education

Responding on behalf of the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief of Staff to the Governor, praised the teachers for their solidarity and dedication to the Soludo administration’s education vision.

“You are the engine of the Soludo education reforms,” Ezeajughi said. “Your efforts have brought visibility, awards, and excellence to Anambra’s education system. The governor remains committed to prioritising teachers’ welfare and building on the progress we have collectively achieved.”

He assured the teachers that the administration would continue to prioritise prompt salary payments, professional development, and improved working conditions to sustain the momentum in the education sector.

Teachers Praise Soludo’s Commitment

Several teachers who spoke during the rally expressed their satisfaction with Governor Soludo’s performance.

Mrs. Scholastica Ijeoma Agbata of Community Secondary School, Umuokpu Awka, praised the governor for consistent salary payments and full implementation of the national minimum wage, describing him as “a leader who treats teachers’ welfare as sacred.”

Similarly, Mrs. Joy Orenyenworji of Capital City Secondary School, Awka, commended Soludo for his responsiveness to the needs of the education sector, pledging teachers’ collective support for his re-election.

Mrs. Anulika Adibe added that contrary to some public claims, the PPSSC under Prof. Ikediugwu has been transparent and fair in managing teacher affairs, further attributing the sector’s improved morale to Soludo’s proactive governance.

PPSSC Officials Reaffirm Support

Other key officials who attended the event include Prof. Naomi Samuel, Deputy Chairman of PPSSC; Mrs. Ann Okafor, the Commission’s Public Relations Officer; as well as zonal board members — Dr. Uche Okeke (Awka Zone), Dr. Ngozi Ekwunife (Ogidi Zone), Dr. Ernest Chukwuka (Nnewi Zone), Dr. Bibiana Okoli (Aguata Zone), and the Commission’s Secretary, Mrs. Bernadine Anagor.

They jointly reaffirmed the Commission’s support for Soludo’s second-term bid, describing him as “a reform-driven leader who has restored dignity to the teaching profession in Anambra State.”

As Anambra prepares for the November 8 governorship election, groups across the state continue to align with their preferred candidates. The teachers’ endorsement of Soludo adds to growing support from several professional and trade unions, including IPMAN and educational associations, who cite his developmental track record as a basis for re-election.

Observers note that education reforms, public sector restructuring, and infrastructural renewal will likely dominate discussions as Anambra voters head to the polls.
