President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism and deliver a secure, prosperous Nigeria, despite what he described as “political headwinds” facing the nation.
Speaking on Thursday after receiving an update on the state of the economy from Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the President expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through unity, diplomacy, and the implementation of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Despite the political headwinds and the fear of our people, we continue to engage our partners,” Tinubu said. “We are engaging the world diplomatically. I assure you all that we will defeat terrorism. The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose guided by the Renewed Hope agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria.”
Tinubu’s Assurance Amid Global Diplomatic Tensions
The President’s remarks come amid international reactions following alleged statements credited to former United States President Donald Trump, who reportedly instructed America’s Department of War to “prepare for possible action” in Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians.
Trump had earlier redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” citing claims of religious persecution — a move that has sparked widespread criticism and concern among diplomatic observers.
In response, the Nigerian Federal Government strongly denied the allegations, maintaining that there is no ongoing religious persecution or systematic killing of Christians in the country. Government officials insist that Nigeria remains a multi-religious state where citizens freely practise their faiths without discrimination.
Renewed Hope Agenda as Framework for National Unity
President Tinubu’s renewed assurances reflect his broader commitment to national stability, economic recovery, and foreign cooperation. His administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda focuses on addressing insecurity, revitalising the economy, and strengthening international partnerships to restore investor confidence.
Political analysts note that the President’s remarks signal Nigeria’s readiness to engage diplomatically with world powers while maintaining sovereignty and stability at home.
