APC Condemns Attack on Malami’s Convoy in Kebbi

By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has condemned in strong terms the violent attack on the convoy of former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in Birnin Kebbi on Monday. The clash left several vehicles damaged and multiple individuals injured, escalating political tension in the state.

Speaking with journalists, APC’s Public Relations Officer, Isa Abubakar As-Salafi, said the party first learnt of the incident through social media reports. He assured that an internal investigation would be conducted to ascertain the culprits behind the violence.

“We live in peace, and we want peace to continue to be promoted by all political parties in the state,” As-Salafi stated.

He, however, alleged that security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy fired gunshots during the confrontation, a move he said aggravated the situation.

Malami Responds

In his reaction, Malami — who now leads the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi — dismissed claims that his visit to Birnin Kebbi was politically motivated. According to him, his mission was to pay condolences to families of prominent individuals who had recently passed away.

“It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy,” Malami alleged.

Despite the violence, the former minister declared his resolve to remain active in Kebbi politics:
“When it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender.”

Victims and Damages

Eyewitnesses reported that about ten vehicles in Malami’s convoy were vandalised, while several people sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Akahi News gathered that police authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the masterminds behind the attack and restore calm.
