In what political observers have described as a major boost for grassroots political mobilisation, former Cross River State Governor, Senator Benedict Ayade, has donated motorcycles to ward chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the Cross River Northern Senatorial District.

Akahi News gathered that the donation came barely twenty-four hours after the inauguration of the party’s chapter and ward executive committee members in the district, signalling what many party stakeholders view as an early show of support for the newly elected leadership at the grassroots level.
Support for 54 Ward Chairmen Across the District
Information available to Akahi News indicates that a total of fifty-four motorcycles were distributed to ward chairmen across the northern senatorial district. The gesture is expected to improve mobility for the party officials, enabling them to coordinate party activities, engage members, and reach various communities within their wards more effectively.
Political analysts note that transportation challenges remain a significant obstacle for political mobilisation in many rural communities. In several areas, poor road networks and long distances between settlements make it difficult for local party leaders to frequently meet with members and supporters.
By providing motorcycles to the ward chairmen, Senator Ayade is believed to be addressing these logistical challenges and strengthening the operational capacity of the party at the grassroots level.
Party Leaders Commend the Gesture
Speaking on behalf of party members, the chapter chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Comrade Odama Joseph, expressed appreciation to the former governor for what he described as a thoughtful and strategic gesture.
According to him, the donation aligns with the spirit of unity and political guidance emphasised during the inauguration of the new executives. He noted that the gesture demonstrates Senator Ayade’s continued interest in the progress and stability of the party within the district.
Comrade Joseph further remarked that the support provided by the former governor reflects a deep understanding of the responsibilities placed on ward leaders and the practical challenges they face while carrying out their duties.
Obanliku Chairman Highlights Importance of Mobility
Similarly, the chapter chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Comrade Thomas Ashibi, also commended the former governor for providing mobility support to the ward chairmen.
He stated that the motorcycles would significantly assist the leaders in moving across communities, coordinating meetings, and strengthening communication with party members at the grassroots level.
Ashibi explained that the donation came shortly after the inauguration of the executives and described the development as a moment of encouragement for the ward chairmen.
He added that many of the ward leaders expressed gratitude for the gesture and offered prayers for continued blessings, strength, and divine replenishment for the former governor.
Strengthening Grassroots Political Structures
Political observers believe that strengthening ward leadership is crucial for the stability and effectiveness of political party structures, particularly in rural communities where local leaders serve as the closest link between party leadership and the electorate.
Akahi News learnt that the motorcycles are expected to enhance the capacity of the ward chairmen to carry out their responsibilities, including mobilising supporters, organising meetings, and promoting the party’s programmes within their respective communities.
Analysts also note that such interventions often help to energise party members at the grassroots level while reinforcing unity and collaboration among leaders within the political structure.
As political activities continue to evolve across Cross River State, observers say initiatives that empower local party structures could play a key role in shaping the political landscape in the coming years.
For many stakeholders, the donation of motorcycles by Senator Benedict Ayade represents not only practical support for party officials but also a symbolic commitment to strengthening grassroots political participation across the Cross River Northern Senatorial District.
