Lawmaker Officially Joins Accord as Political Alignments Shift in Osun
Honourable Bamidele Salam, the lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has formally received his membership card of the Accord Party in what observers see as a significant political development ahead of upcoming elections in Osun State.

The presentation ceremony took place in Awo, located in Egbedore Local Government Area, where party stakeholders gathered to welcome the federal lawmaker into the party’s fold.
During the event, stakeholders also publicly endorsed both Hon. Bamidele Salam and the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, for re-election, signalling growing political consolidation around the ruling leadership in the state.
Akahi News gathered that the gathering brought together party leaders, political stakeholders, youth representatives, and community supporters who expressed optimism about the political direction of the state.
Adeleke’s Administration Praised as Salam Positions for Future Elections
Representing Governor Adeleke at the event, the Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Biyi Odunlade, described the lawmaker as a trusted political ally of the governor.
He noted that Hon. Salam’s legislative contributions and development initiatives extend beyond his federal constituency and have earned him recognition among political leaders in the state.
According to him, continued support for Salam would strengthen governance and ensure sustained development within the constituency.
Akahi News learnt that the Accord Party leadership also used the occasion to rally supporters around Governor Adeleke as preparations intensify for the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
Accord Party Leadership Calls for Unity and Strong Mobilisation
Speaking at the ceremony, the Accord Party State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, urged members and supporters to unite behind the governor and the federal lawmaker.
He expressed confidence that strong grassroots mobilisation would secure victory for the party in the upcoming governorship election as well as future contests.
Political analysts observing developments in Osun note that alliances and party restructuring often become more visible as elections approach. The reception of Salam into the party structure may therefore reflect broader strategic repositioning among political actors in the state.
But beyond party endorsements and political strategy, a deeper question emerges: what truly determines political loyalty in democratic societies?
Is it ideology, performance, party structure, or the trust built between leaders and the electorate?
Salam Describes Membership as Strategic Move for Political Mobilisation
Addressing journalists shortly after receiving his membership card, Hon. Bamidele Salam said the Accord Party has gained significant influence in Osun State due largely to what he described as Governor Adeleke’s strong performance and achievements during his time in office.
He explained that by formally receiving the membership card, he is positioning himself to play a leading role in expanding the party’s support base across his constituency.
According to the lawmaker, the event also marks the symbolic launch of the governor’s second-term campaign ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15.
He expressed confidence that the party would secure victory at the polls, citing the alignment between the party’s manifesto and the needs of the people.
Akahi News gathered that Salam also views the development as part of a broader political strategy that will extend into the 2027 general elections, when he hopes to contest again for the House of Representatives under the Accord platform.
Youth Leaders and Stakeholders Express Support
A youth leader from Egbedore Local Government Area, Sulaimon Mutiu Ademola, praised the lawmaker’s performance in the National Assembly.
He said stakeholders from Egbedore and other parts of the constituency endorsed Salam’s third-term ambition because of what they described as effective representation and development-oriented leadership.
Ademola also urged supporters to continue backing both Governor Adeleke and Hon. Salam so that their programmes and policies can continue uninterrupted.
Such endorsements often raise an important philosophical reflection about democracy: should political continuity be determined by loyalty to leaders, or by measurable impact on citizens’ lives?
And when communities rally behind political figures, is it primarily a reflection of satisfaction with leadership, or a hope that the next term will bring even greater progress?
Political Landscape in Osun Continues to Evolve
As political realignments continue across Osun State ahead of key elections, the reception of Hon. Bamidele Salam into the Accord Party highlights the dynamic nature of party politics in Nigeria.
Observers note that such developments may influence campaign strategies, grassroots mobilisation, and alliances among political actors in the coming months.
Whether these shifts ultimately reshape electoral outcomes remains to be seen.
Yet one enduring question persists in every democracy: do political victories come from party structures, popular support, or the deeper trust between leaders and the people they serve?
For many voters in Osun State, the answer may become clearer when they head to the polls.
