Bandits Crushed in Kogi as Air Strikes Rattle Criminal Hideouts
An ongoing joint security operation involving troops of the Nigerian Army and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force has led to the neutralisation of scores of bandits and the dismantling of their criminal networks across several forested areas of Kogi State.

Akahi News gathered that the coordinated offensive, backed by aerial surveillance and precision air strikes, targeted known bandit enclaves where armed groups had reportedly operated with relative impunity for months.
Coordinated Ground and Air Offensive
Security sources disclosed that the operation combined ground assaults with air strikes aimed at flushing out armed elements hiding deep within forest corridors linking Kogi to neighbouring states. The strikes reportedly destroyed key camps, logistics points, and escape routes commonly used by the criminal groups.
According to the sources, several bandits were neutralised during fierce encounters, while others were forced to flee their hideouts as troops tightened control over the affected areas. Large quantities of arms, ammunition, and supplies were also said to have been recovered during the raids.
Disruption of Bandit Networks
Akahi News learnt that beyond the immediate combat operations, the joint task force focused on dismantling the wider support networks sustaining the bandits. These include informants, supply chains, and local collaborators allegedly aiding the movement of the criminals through forest routes.
Security officials said the disruption of these networks is critical to preventing the regrouping of armed gangs and restoring lasting security to rural communities that have suffered repeated attacks, kidnappings, and robberies.
Boost for Local Security and Confidence
Residents in some of the affected communities reportedly expressed relief following the operation, noting a visible reduction in armed movement and criminal activity. Local sources said farmlands and major roads previously considered unsafe are gradually becoming accessible again under increased security presence.
Analysts believe the success recorded so far could serve as a model for similar operations in other parts of the country grappling with banditry and organised crime.
Authorities Vow Sustained Pressure
Military and police authorities have assured that the operation remains ongoing, stressing that there will be no pause until all identified criminal elements are flushed out of Kogi’s forests. They also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
As Nigeria intensifies efforts to curb insecurity nationwide, observers say sustained collaboration between the military, police, and local communities will be key to consolidating recent gains and preventing a resurgence of bandit activity.
