The Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), is set to host its first-ever inaugural lecture, with a focus on sustainable food economics and its role in driving national prosperity. The event, titled “Harvesting Prosperity: The Power of Sustainable Food Economics in Nigeria”, will take place on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, at the Pre-Degree Lecture Theatre of the institution.

According to details made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the lecture will be delivered by Professor Oluyede Adeleke Aturamu, a distinguished scholar and authority in the field of food economics. Professor Aturamu’s decades of research and expertise are expected to provide valuable insights into how Nigeria can leverage sustainable agricultural practices and food policies to boost economic growth, enhance food security, and improve livelihoods.
The lecture is scheduled to begin promptly at 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor O.V. Adeoluwa, speaking on behalf of the Governing Council and Senate, extended an open invitation to members of the academic community, policymakers, industry stakeholders, students, and the general public to be part of what promises to be a landmark event in the institution’s history.
The inaugural lecture, which marks a major academic milestone for BOUESTI, is not only an opportunity to showcase the intellectual capacity of the university but also a platform for engaging critical conversations about Nigeria’s future in food production and economic diversification. In a nation where agriculture remains a key sector of the economy, the theme is expected to spark meaningful discussions on policies, investment opportunities, and innovations that could transform the country’s food system.
Observers believe the choice of Professor Aturamu as the inaugural lecturer is a deliberate move to emphasise BOUESTI’s commitment to addressing real-world challenges through academic research and community engagement. The lecture is anticipated to attract a cross-section of stakeholders, including government representatives, development partners, farmers’ associations, and agribusiness leaders.
With growing concerns over food inflation, climate change, and the need for self-reliance in agricultural production, the event could not have come at a better time. The university management has assured that the lecture will be both intellectually stimulating and solution-oriented, offering a blueprint for harnessing the power of sustainable food economics to achieve lasting prosperity in Nigeria.
