INEC to Commence Continuous Voter Registration in Osun State from August 18

By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence in Osun State on Monday, 18 August 2025, with the first phase dedicated to online registration. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that all eligible citizens are able to participate in future elections by obtaining or updating their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) without difficulty and at no cost.

According to INEC, prospective registrants are to visit the official registration portal — www.cvr.inecnigeria.org — from 18 August 2025 to supply accurate personal information. Upon completion, each registrant will generate a confirmation slip which must be presented at the INEC local government office within their place of residence.

From 25 August 2025, registrants will proceed to the local government offices for biometric capturing, which includes fingerprints and facial data. INEC emphasised that without completing this biometric stage, the registration process will be considered incomplete, even if the online forms have been filled.

Physical Registration Option Available

In addition to the online–to–biometric process, INEC has provided a physical registration option for those who may prefer or require it. Beginning from 25 August 2025, eligible residents can walk into any INEC local government office in Osun State for on-the-spot registration. This method, which also attracts no charges, is designed to accommodate individuals without internet access or those who wish to complete the process in a single visit.

Categories of Eligible Registrants

INEC outlined the categories of persons eligible for registration during the exercise:

  • Fresh Registrations: Adults who have never registered before.
  • New Voters: Individuals who have just turned 18 years old or older.
  • Replacement of Lost PVCs: Voters who have misplaced their cards.
  • Replacement of Damaged or Defaced PVCs: Holders whose cards have become unusable.
  • Correction of Details: Voters who wish to rectify errors on their cards.

INEC’s Call for Compliance and Participation

The Commission urged residents of Osun State to take advantage of the exercise to ensure they are duly registered and eligible to vote in forthcoming elections. Citizens were also reminded to avoid multiple registrations, as doing so contravenes electoral laws and could attract legal sanctions.

With the combination of online and physical registration channels, INEC expressed confidence that the process will be seamless, inclusive, and transparent, ultimately enhancing voter participation across Osun State.
