Ibom Air Passenger Comfort Emmanson Speaks Out After Release from Kirikiri Prison
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently discharged by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, has broken her silence, expressing gratitude to her supporters and reflecting on the toll her ordeal has taken.

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Wednesday, Emmanson thanked her friends, family, and well-wishers for their unwavering prayers and moral support during her detention. She confirmed her release from Kirikiri Prison but disclosed that she is still struggling with the physical and emotional impact of her experience.
“Thank you so much for all the prayers, love, and support. I’ve been released from the prison, but I’m still in pain due to how I was treated. I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give my own version of the event. Thank you so much, my lovely friends and supporters. I really appreciate you all from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all. THANK YOU, MY GREAT GOD!!!” she wrote.
Her statement came just hours after the Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Ogba, struck out the five-count charge filed against her. The charges had alleged that she disrupted public peace aboard an Ibom Air flight, assaulted a crew member, and behaved in a manner capable of breaching public order.
According to court proceedings, the case was dismissed after the complainant and Ibom Air informed the court they were no longer interested in pursuing the matter. Presiding Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami consequently ordered Emmanson’s immediate discharge.
The incident, which had drawn considerable public attention and sparked debates on passenger rights and airline conduct, remains shrouded in controversy. While the details of the alleged altercation aboard the flight have yet to be fully disclosed, Emmanson hinted that she will share her side of the story once she has recovered sufficiently.
Observers note that her case underscores broader concerns about the handling of in-flight disputes in Nigeria’s aviation sector and the rights of passengers when conflicts arise. It also highlights the emotional and psychological consequences of legal disputes, even when charges are ultimately dropped.
For now, Emmanson has requested privacy and time to heal, promising to address the public in due course.
