Brighton Fan Dies After Medical Emergency During Premier League Match

A sombre atmosphere engulfed Brighton’s Amex Stadium on Sunday after a 72-year-old supporter tragically lost his life during the Premier League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham.
The fan, seated in the upper tier of the East Stand, collapsed midway through the second half of the game, which later ended in a 1-1 draw. According to reports, medical personnel swiftly responded, administering prolonged CPR and defibrillation at the scene in an attempt to revive him. Despite their best efforts, the man passed away shortly after the match.
Club’s Condolences
Brighton chief executive Paul Barber expressed the club’s grief, extending heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
“This was an incredibly sad end to the match this afternoon, and our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family and friends of the gentleman who lost his life,” Barber said.
He acknowledged the distress caused to nearby fans and stadium staff, assuring that support would be provided in the coming days.
Medical Efforts Praised
Club doctor and emergency medicine consultant, Dr Rob Galloway, described the response as both professional and immediate.
“It was a tragic outcome, but from an emergency response perspective, the medical care was exemplary. The professionalism of club stewards and Sussex Police provided the medical team with the best possible working environment,” he noted.
Medics on site opted against transferring the supporter to hospital, stating that his highest chance of survival lay in receiving treatment directly at the stadium.

The incident has cast a shadow over what was otherwise a hard-fought encounter between Brighton and Fulham. Supporters and football authorities alike have paid tribute to the fan, highlighting the fragile nature of life even in moments of collective joy and competition.
Brighton & Hove Albion has pledged to remain in contact with the family of the deceased and continue to support both staff and fans who witnessed the distressing scene.
