In today’s edition of my daily Catholic reflection, we shall learn about the unfailing love of God and the importance of persistence in prayer.

My name is Joseph Iyaji, and today is Wednesday, the 7th day of July, 2024. I titled my reflection for today as “God’s Unfailing Love”.

My dear friends in Christ, in our first reading from Jeremiah 31:1-7, we see God’s promise to restore His people, Israel, with an unfailing love. God’s love is not based on our worthiness but on His own faithfulness. He promises to turn their mourning into joy and their sorrow into gladness.

In our gospel reading from Matthew 15:21-28, we see a Canaanite woman who persists in prayer, asking Jesus to heal her daughter. Despite initial rejection, she remains faithful and eventually receives her request. This teaches us to persevere in prayer, trusting in God’s goodness and love.

Beloved in Christ, our readings of today are packed with the following lessons:

1. **God’s Unwavering Love and Mercy**: From the first reading in Jeremiah 31:1-7, we learn that God’s love for His people is eternal and steadfast. Despite their past unfaithfulness, He promises to restore and bring them back from exile, highlighting His boundless mercy and readiness to forgive.

2. **The Power of Faith**: The gospel reading from Matthew 15:21-28 teaches us the significance of strong faith. The Canaanite woman’s unwavering belief in Jesus’ power to heal her daughter, despite being a Gentile, shows that true faith can transcend boundaries and lead to miraculous outcomes.

3. **Importance of Humility and Persistence**: The Canaanite woman’s humble plea and persistence in seeking Jesus’ help, despite initial resistance, exemplify how humility and determination in prayer can move the heart of God and lead to answered prayers.
