Newspaper Vendors in Osogbo Lament Decline in Sales Due to Online Media
Speaking with Newsmen On Thursday in Osogbo, Osun State Capital, newspaper vendors and sales representatives expressed concerns about the significant decline in sales of hard copies, attributing it to the rise of online media. They emphasized that this trend is severely impacting their livelihood and survival.
Oladayo Salau, a veteran newspaper vendor at Old Garage, Osogbo, with over 15 years of experience, reported a drastic drop in sales. He noted that the only remaining source of patronage comes from individuals placing adverts or announcements, such as change of name notices, who require hard copies for reference purposes.
Salau highlighted the challenge posed by online media, stating that news stories are often available online a day before they are published in print, leading to a significant decrease in demand for physical newspapers. The vendors are struggling to adapt to this new reality, as their traditional business model is increasingly becoming unsustainable.

Ogundeji, along with co-defendant Ikuejamoye Thomas, a pensioner, was charged with selling the land and backdating the receipt, in defiance of restraining orders from both the magistrate’s court and a high court in Okitipupa LGA. The court’s decision sends a strong message that disobedience of court orders will not be tolerated, and those in positions of authority will be held accountable for their actions.
