The Cross River State Government has announced decisive steps to bring an end to the long-standing communal conflict between communities in Ikom and Obubra Local Government Areas. The measures were unveiled on Tuesday, September 17, 2025, following weeks of intense stakeholder engagement led by the State Security Adviser.

According to a press release signed by Linus Obogo, Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser to the Governor, the state government is determined to restore peace, protect lives, and ensure harmony among the warring communities of Alesi/Ekukunela/Agbaragba and Ochon/Isabang/Odonget.
Key Measures to End the Dispute
Cross River State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, explained that the government’s strategy involves deploying security operatives to maintain order and transferring ownership rights of the disputed land to the state government to eliminate future conflicts.
Dr. Odey stated, “By this singular act, the root of contention is extinguished, transforming the territory into a protected heritage under state custody.”
Call for Unity and Reconciliation
The Deputy Governor further appealed to elders, youths, and community leaders to embrace reconciliation, cooperate with security agencies, and desist from hostility. He emphasised that lasting peace and stability can only be achieved through unity and mutual understanding.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives, fostering development, and ensuring collective wellbeing across Cross River State.
