The Cross River State Police Command has announced the appointment of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sunday Eitokpah Akata as its new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), following the approval of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, signals a strategic move by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen public communication, transparency, and community engagement within the Cross River State Command. Akahi News learnt that the decision was part of ongoing efforts to reposition police-public relations across commands nationwide.

ASP Akata, an indigene of Edo State, was commissioned into the Nigeria Police Force in 2022 after completing a rigorous five-year academic and professional training programme at the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biochemistry, combining scientific knowledge with law enforcement training.

According to information gathered by Akahi News, the new PPRO has also undertaken several specialised professional courses aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and investigative competence. These include combat operations and counter-terrorism training at the Police Mobile Force Training School in Ende Hills, Nasarawa State, as well as leadership training at Shere Hills, Jos.

Expertise in Investigation, Forensics, and Police Reforms

ASP Akata’s professional development further spans forensic analysis and detective work, having completed basic and advanced detective courses at Wudil, Kano State, and the Police Staff College, Jos. He is also a certified Advanced Facilitator for the Nigeria Police Reform Programme, underscoring his role in institutional reforms within the Force.

In addition, he is a member of the National Institute of Social Media Analysts (NISMA), Abuja, a qualification that analysts believe will be particularly valuable in managing police communication in the digital age.

Track Record of Service in Cross River

Before his latest deployment, ASP Akata served in key operational and administrative roles within the Cross River State Police Command. His previous postings include Divisional Traffic Officer at A Division, Calabar, and Officer-in-Charge of the Cross River State Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU).

Observers noted that his experience in handling public complaints and traffic management places him in a strong position to manage media relations and public enquiries as the Command’s spokesperson.
