NANS Denounces Unjust Rustication of Federal Polytechnic Ede Students
The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the recent rustication of students at Federal Polytechnic, Ede by the institution’s Rector. NANS asserts that the affected students were unjustly punished for exercising their constitutional rights by standing up and advocating for their rightful entitlements.
According to NANS Senate President, Com. Akinteye Babatunde, instead of addressing the legitimate concerns raised by the students, the Rector has chosen to intimidate and threaten them. Babatunde alleges that the targeting of faculty presidents and course representatives with threats of rustication is unacceptable and a blatant abuse of power aimed at silencing the student body.
NANS demands a reversal of the rustication and urges the Rector to engage in constructive dialogue with the students to address their concerns. The association stands in solidarity with the affected students and will continue to advocate for their rights and interests.
Cross River Governor Approves Recruitment of 206 Healthcare Professionals to Boost State’s Health Sector
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River has given the green light for the recruitment of 206 healthcare professionals, including 31 medical doctors, 153 nurses, and 22 pharmacists, to tackle the severe manpower shortage in the state’s health sector. This was announced by Dr. Henry Ayuk, the Commissioner for Health, during a press briefing in Calabar on Wednesday.
The recruitment drive aims to enhance healthcare service delivery in the state, addressing the alarming ratio of just 20 doctors and 938 nurses serving a population of approximately 3.4 million people in secondary healthcare facilities. The move seeks to bridge the human capacity gap and equip the sector with the necessary manpower to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Cross River.
