Delta Police Arrest Suspect Who Hid Gun Inside Loaf of Bread

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old man, identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, for allegedly concealing a fabricated pistol inside a loaf of bread during a routine stop-and-search operation in Asaba.

Shocking Discovery During Routine Patrol

Akahi News learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday, November 6, 2025, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad stationed at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, flagged down the suspect after noticing his suspicious behaviour.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, it was revealed that a Beretta-like pistol was discovered ingeniously hidden within a loaf of bread the suspect was carrying. The police immediately arrested Chibuike and took him into custody for further interrogation.

Ongoing Investigation into Possible Criminal Links

According to SP Edafe, the recovered weapon has been secured as an exhibit, while investigators are probing possible links between the suspect and recent cases of armed robbery and kidnapping across Asaba and its environs.

He stated that preliminary findings suggest the suspect might be part of a criminal network operating within the metropolis. However, the police assured residents that further details would be released as the investigation progresses.

Police Commend Operatives’ Vigilance

The Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the discovery as a testament to the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing.

Olufemi reiterated that the Delta State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to ensure public safety and maintain law and order across the state. He urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely information that could help prevent crime.

“This arrest underscores the importance of constant surveillance and community partnership in combating criminal activities. We will continue to intensify patrols and strengthen intelligence gathering,” the Commissioner reportedly said.

The police have assured members of the public that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
