Dr. Clement Alegu, a leading contestant for the Yala Local Government Chairmanship position in Cross River State, is making a passionate appeal for justice and representation for the Igede people of Yala 2 Constituency. In a recent interview on AIT. Dr. Alegu addressed the long-standing marginalization of the Igede community, highlighting their exclusion from critical developmental opportunities since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.

Dr. Alegu emphasized that the Igede people have been systematically neglected for over two decades. He lamented the dire lack of essential social amenities in the region—no electricity, no market infrastructure, outdated schools, no access to potable water, and deplorable road conditions. The absence of these basic services has left the Igede people struggling, with minimal prospects for growth and development.

Appealing directly to Cross River State Governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Dr. Alegu urged that the governor’s people-oriented policies must also extend to the Igede-Edii people. He stressed that for Cross River to truly progress, all its communities must benefit from the dividends of democracy.

With a strong background as an administrator and a progressive leader, Dr. Alegu called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders to offer him the opportunity to lead. He promised that if given the mandate, his administration would ensure that development reached every corner of Yala. His vision is clear: an inclusive Yala where every community, regardless of size or influence, experiences growth.

In Dr. Alegu’s view, the Igede people are not asking for special favors but for their rightful share of attention and resources—a chance to catch up after years of being left behind. His campaign resonates not just with the Igede community but with many who seek a more equitable and forward-thinking leadership in Yala.

As Yala moves toward another election cycle, the question remains: Will the voices of the marginalized finally be heard, and will a new chapter of inclusive development begin?
