As Nigeria marks its 64th year of independence, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called for peace, patience, and perseverance among citizens, reminding them that “there is no gain without pain.”

Governor Abiodun acknowledged the hardships caused by the policies of the Tinubu-led administration but assured Nigerians of a positive outcome in the long run. He made these remarks during the anniversary celebration at the arcade ground of the governor’s office in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence, Abiodun highlighted the nation’s achievements and resilience. He emphasized that despite numerous challenges, Nigeria has continued to grow and serve as a beacon of hope and strength for the African continent.

“This day holds immense significance in our collective history,” he said. “It reminds us of the bravery, sacrifices, and unshakable hope of our founding fathers, who envisioned a free, united, and prosperous Nigeria. In our 64-year journey, we have reached many milestones, proving that our resilience as a people surpasses the challenges we face.”

Addressing the current economic struggles, the governor pointed out that global and domestic pressures have strained the nation’s resources, leading to rising inflation, unemployment, and a higher cost of living. He acknowledged the anxiety felt by many Nigerians but expressed confidence in the federal government’s efforts to stabilize the economy.

“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the federal government has implemented bold measures to reposition the economy and prevent financial collapse. While these initiatives require sacrifice, we must persevere, as there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Abiodun added.

Commenting on the October 1 protests, the governor urged Nigerians to focus on constructive dialogue rather than supporting those seeking to destabilize the country through protests and civil unrest.

“Let us not align with those advocating for protests, violence, and civil disobedience—actions that lead to vandalism, destruction, and potential anarchy. Instead, we should work with the government, knowing that this is an inclusive administration committed to the welfare of its citizens,” he said.
