By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has once again brought international attention to Nigeria’s culinary scene after successfully attempting to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice. The monumental event, held on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, transformed into a grand food festival, drawing a crowd of over 20,000 enthusiastic attendees.

A Mega Jollof Challenge
According to Eyes of Lagos, the challenge featured a specially designed six-metre-wide pot capable of holding 22,619 litres of jollof rice. Baci revealed that 250 bags of rice were used for the attempt, with generous servings distributed to the massive audience after the dish was prepared.
The event was more than a Guinness World Record bid; it was a vibrant celebration of food, culture, and entertainment, showcasing the richness of Nigerian identity and heritage.
Tinubu Sends Congratulatory Message
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised Hilda Baci’s historic effort, calling it a testament to Nigerian excellence on the global stage. Speaking through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the President commended Baci’s dedication and resilience.
“The Federal Government lauds Hilda Baci’s extraordinary effort in putting Nigeria once again on the global map. Her dedication to excellence and her unrelenting pursuit of greatness exemplify the Nigerian spirit that the world has come to appreciate,” Idris said.
The government also expressed commitment to supporting future initiatives that highlight Nigeria’s cultural and creative achievements, encouraging young Nigerians to emulate Baci’s passion and determination.
Hilda Baci’s Record-Breaking Legacy
This is not Baci’s first taste of global fame. In 2023, she captured international attention after setting the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, clocking an impressive 93 hours of continuous cooking.
Her latest feat adds fuel to the ever-lively Nigeria vs Ghana jollof rivalry, sparking renewed debates about which country makes the best version of the West African delicacy.
Nigerians Celebrate a National Triumph
While Guinness World Records’ official confirmation of the achievement is pending, Nigerians have already begun celebrating the event as a national triumph.
For many, Baci’s accomplishment represents more than just food; it is a powerful reminder of Nigeria’s creativity, resilience, and capacity to influence global culture.
