Speaking to newsmen at the event venue, Baci explained that the adjustment became necessary due to technical limitations. The custom-made pot and the rice combined would have exceeded the maximum capacity of the crane and weighing scale, which could only carry 20,000 kilogrammes.

Technical Challenges Prompt Adjustment

Baci disclosed that her initial goal was to cook 5,000 kilogrammes of jollof rice, aiming for a final weight of 17,000–18,000 kilogrammes, including the pot. However, the combined weight neared 20,000 kilogrammes, the upper limit of the equipment.

Her words: “It’s safer for me to go below 20,000 kilogrammes so that my scale can carry it all at the same time, and basically that is why I had to cut down on the quantity. This 4,000 kilogrammes of rice is 200 bags, and it will still feed 20,000 people, so we’re still up there,” she said.

Almost a Year of Planning

Baci revealed that the project took nearly a year to plan, noting that fabricating the giant cooking pot alone took two months. She added that the entire event, which lasted almost nine hours, was aimed at bringing people together rather than just breaking a record.

“I mean, have you looked around? There’s a lot of you. Some of you came with your cooler, so we need to make sure everybody’s fed. We’re feeding the nation,” she said.

The record-breaking attempt attracted a large crowd of food lovers, celebrities, and dignitaries, including Nollywood actress Funke Akindele, dancer Kaffy, and the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun.
