The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, who was abducted on October 31, 2025, has regained his freedom and reunited with his family after undergoing medical attention.
Akahi News gathered that Bagudo’s release brought immense relief to his family, colleagues, and residents of Bagudo Local Government Area, where his abduction had stirred anxiety and heightened security concerns.

Police Confirm Safe Return and Commend Security Operatives
In an official statement, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the safe return of the lawmaker, describing the development as a testament to the “courage and professionalism” of the combined security team that handled the operation.
The command also extended appreciation to residents who provided credible intelligence, noting that their cooperation was instrumental in securing Bagudo’s freedom without further escalation.
According to the police, ongoing joint operations involving tactical units and local vigilantes have been intensified across identified hotspots in the state to suppress the activities of kidnappers and bandits.
Kebbi Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security
Reiterating its resolve to sustain the fight against violent crimes, the Kebbi Police Command assured citizens of its continuous commitment to maintaining peace and public safety.
The statement read in part: “We remain unwavering in our mission to eliminate banditry, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality in Kebbi State. Citizens are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police formation for prompt action.”
Akahi News learnt that Bagudo’s abduction had triggered widespread concern among political stakeholders and residents alike, particularly in light of recent incidents of kidnappings targeting politicians, traditional rulers, and rural dwellers across the northwestern region.
Rising Insecurity and Renewed Security Measures
Observers noted that the abduction underscores the persistent challenge of insecurity in parts of Kebbi and neighbouring states, despite recent counter-operations by security agencies.
Reports indicate that the state government, in collaboration with federal security outfits, has intensified intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of citizens ahead of the forthcoming political season.
A Call for Collective Vigilance
While residents have expressed relief over the Deputy Speaker’s return, analysts believe the episode serves as a reminder of the need for continuous community cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
Akahi News gathered that the Kebbi State Police Command has opened dedicated hotlines for citizens to report suspicious movements, stressing that community intelligence remains a key weapon in the fight against insecurity.
