Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a “dividend of at least $2,000 per person” will soon be distributed to Americans, excluding high-income earners, as a reward for what he described as the success of his tariff policies.
In a post shared on Sunday, Trump boasted that his economic policies had made the United States “the richest and most respected country in the world,” citing a strong stock market and minimal inflation as evidence of the nation’s prosperity.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER,” Trump wrote.
“A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” he added.
Tariff Wealth and Economic Claims
According to Akahi News, Trump’s declaration echoes his long-standing defence of tariffs as a powerful economic weapon. During his presidency, he imposed sweeping tariffs on China and other trading partners, arguing that such measures protected American industries and generated revenue for the federal government.
While Trump claimed the country is now “wealthy” due to these policies, economists have often debated the broader effects of tariffs, warning that they can drive up consumer costs and disrupt international trade relationships.
Economic Context and Political Undertones
Trump’s statement comes amid renewed speculation about his potential return to the White House in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Observers believe the promise of a “tariff dividend” could be part of a broader political message aimed at showcasing his economic leadership and appealing to middle- and lower-income Americans.
However, Akahi News gathered that details of the proposed payment — such as its funding mechanism, eligibility criteria, and timeline — were not immediately provided. The announcement has sparked a flurry of discussion among political analysts and economists about its feasibility and impact.
Reactions and Outlook
While Trump’s supporters hailed the announcement as evidence of his “America First” economic agenda, critics described it as populist rhetoric lacking fiscal clarity.
Financial analysts note that such a nationwide dividend, if ever implemented, would require substantial government funding and congressional approval — two hurdles that could make it more symbolic than practical.
Nevertheless, Trump’s assertion that the U.S. has become “the richest, most respected country in the world” under his trade policies is likely to reignite debate about the legacy and long-term impact of his economic strategies.
