An Osun State Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife has ordered the remand of two brothers, Teslim Awoyefa (48) and Taoheed Awoyefa (42), for allegedly possessing firearms and threatening violence. The brothers face a nine-count charge, including conspiracy, intent to commit felony, unlawful possession of firearms, assault, and breach of peace.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, the defendants committed the offenses on January 22 at Fashina Area, Ile-Ife. They allegedly conspired to commit felony, possessed a locally made single-barrel gun with four cartridges and an axe, and threatened to kill several individuals, including Mayowa Olumide, Oba Adeshina Ogunwusi, and Owoniyi Olumide.

The prosecutor stated that the defendants’ actions caused terror, fear, and panic in the area, and they chased people out of their farmlands. The offenses are punishable under various sections of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defense Counsel, Mr. Adebusola Adedoyin, applied for bail, promising that his clients would not jump bail. However, Magistrate Abosede Sarumi requested a written application for bail consideration and ordered the defendants’ remand in the Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service. The case was adjourned until August 28 for further mention.

According to SP Yemisi Opalola, Police Spokesperson in Osun, the command will deploy officers and men to maintain law and order before, during, and after the festival.

Opalola also revealed that the organizers of the “End Bad Government/End Hunger” protest have agreed to suspend their demonstration on the day of the festival’s grand finale. She warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the festival would be considered a criminal, arrested, and dealt with accordingly.
