Oyo Govt Approves Conversion of 654 Civil Servants Across MDAs
The Oyo State Government has approved the conversion of 654 civil servants across various cadres in the state’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), marking a significant end-of-year boost for workers in the public service.
According to reports monitored by Akahi News, the approval was granted by Governor Seyi Makinde and covers officers ranging from junior to senior levels who have upgraded their academic and professional qualifications while in service.

Qualification Upgrade Drives Career Progression
Details obtained from reports indicate that the beneficiaries are officers in sub-officer cadres who enhanced their qualifications by acquiring relevant and approved courses from recognised tertiary institutions. Speaking through an official statement, the Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Kamoru Aderibigbe, explained that the conversion exercise was in line with established civil service rules and procedures.
According to him, the approval is expected to improve the remuneration structure of the affected officers while also opening up opportunities for them to attain the peak of their respective careers within the state civil service.
Akahi News gathered that many of the officers had waited years for such recognition, making the approval a morale booster within the workforce.
Makinde’s Gesture Praised as Timely and Unprecedented
Aderibigbe reportedly urged the beneficiaries to see the governor’s approval as a special privilege and to reciprocate the gesture with renewed dedication, diligence and commitment to public service. He also expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde, describing the approval as an unprecedented end-of-year goodwill gesture to workers in Oyo State.
Observers note that the move aligns with the Makinde administration’s broader public service reforms aimed at motivating workers, improving efficiency and rewarding merit across MDAs.
Implications for Public Service Morale
Analysts believe that the conversion of officers based on improved qualifications could encourage more civil servants to pursue further education and professional development. Akahi News learnt that similar exercises in the past have helped strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery at the state level.
The development has also been widely welcomed by labour stakeholders, who see it as a positive signal of the government’s willingness to recognise and reward self-improvement among its workforce.
As Oyo State rounds off the year, the approval is expected to have ripple effects on staff morale and productivity across MDAs. Observers say sustained implementation of such policies could further consolidate confidence in the state’s civil service system.
