Akahi News learnt that the disturbing incident occurred on Thursday morning. The deceased, identified as an auto mechanic popularly known as “MECO,” was found hanging in his room by neighbours who quickly alerted security agencies.

The NSCDC officials interviewed people present at the scene, including the deceased’s wife, before the body was eventually brought down. Police operatives were also said to have joined in the response.

Possible Dispute Before Death

Speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the case on Friday.

“On Thursday, at around 9:27 am, information reached our office in Ilare Division that one Olajide Tope, popularly known as MECO, living in Otan Ile, committed suicide. Information gathered from people living close to the deceased indicates that he had a misunderstanding with his wife on Wednesday night. People insinuated suicide; should that be taken to be true, what led to it is still hidden,” Adeleke stated.

Community in Shock

The sudden death has left residents of Otan Ile in shock, with many expressing disbelief over the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Sources told Akahi News that the incident sparked fear and sorrow across the neighbourhood, as Olajide was well-known in the area for his work as a mechanic.

While investigations are ongoing, authorities have urged the public to remain calm and await official findings.
