Police Nab Notorious Gunrunner Supplying Arms to Criminals Across Five States

Major Breakthrough in Fight Against Banditry
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a notorious gunrunner alleged to be a major supplier of locally fabricated firearms to criminal gangs terrorising Ondo, Osun, Kogi, Kwara, and Edo States.
Confirming the development on Thursday, 25th September 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, described the arrest as a “significant breakthrough” in ongoing efforts to tackle armed robbery and violent crimes in the region.
How the Arrest Happened
According to Akahi News findings, the suspect was apprehended following a coordinated police operation triggered by an armed robbery incident in Irele town. During the attack, a woman was shot in the leg before her motorcycle, N250,000 cash, and other valuables were stolen.
Swift police investigations led officers to Irele and Ore, where the gunrunner and three accomplices—long on the police wanted list—were eventually captured.
Weapons Network Spanning Multiple States
Police sources revealed that the suspect’s network had been supplying arms to criminal groups operating across state lines, fuelling a surge in violent crimes. Four suspects linked to the operation have already been arraigned on charges bordering on armed robbery and attempted murder, while efforts continue to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate.
DSP Ayanlade assured residents that credible information provided to security agencies would be treated with utmost confidentiality, urging communities to support the police in stamping out crime.

“The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to eradicating all forms of criminality in the state,” Ayanlade stated, stressing that the success of the operation underscores the importance of timely intelligence sharing.
The latest development is expected to cripple the illegal arms supply chain that has posed a major security threat across the affected states.
