Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi’s Powerful Homily: Don’t Let Familiarity Deprive You of Opportunities
Date: July 7, 2024
In a thought-provoking homily today, Rev. Fr. Peter Adeyemi drew inspiration from the readings of Ezekiel 2:2-5, 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, and Mark 6:1-6 to caution against the dangers of familiarity and disbelief.
The cleric emphasized that Jesus’ references to Mary were attempts to ridicule Him, and warned his congregation not to let familiarity deprive them of opportunities. He noted that Jesus’ inability to perform many miracles in his hometown was due to the people’s lack of faith and disbelief.
Fr. Adeyemi also highlighted the importance of reverence for church sacramentals, citing examples of Catholics who fail to feel the presence of Jesus in their lives despite receiving Holy Communion. He encouraged the faithful to embrace the sacrament of penance, rather than becoming too familiar with priests.
Using the example of St. Paul’s infirmity, Fr. Adeyemi emphasized the importance of dependence on God. He concluded by reminding the congregation that the house of God is a place for encountering God in prayer, not entertainment.
