The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old man, identified as Kingsley Chinamezu, popularly known as Power Sharp, over the alleged murder of his 44-year-old girlfriend, Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny. The gruesome incident reportedly took place on July 30, 2025, in Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to the police, Chinamezu allegedly attacked the victim with a machete during a domestic dispute, leading to her tragic death. Following the incident, the suspect fled the community, prompting an intensive manhunt by security operatives.
Suspect Arrested in Edo State
The Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that operatives tracked Chinamezu to his hideout in Egbeta village, Edo State, where he was apprehended on August 15, 2025.
“Upon a formal complaint by the victim’s family and proactive efforts by the operatives of the command, the Commissioner of Police assigned the case to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The operatives swiftly swung into action, located, and arrested the suspect in his hideout,” Iringe-Koko explained.
She further disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and gave a detailed account of the events that led to the killing. She added that police detectives were still gathering evidence and conducting profiling to determine whether the suspect had been involved in other violent crimes within the region.
Prosecution to Follow
The police assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution upon the completion of investigations. “Evidence is being collected, and the suspect is undergoing further investigation and profiling for potential involvement in other related crimes. The suspect will face prosecution upon completion of the investigation,” the statement confirmed.
Commissioner’s Warning to Criminals
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the swift action of the operatives in apprehending the suspect. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Rivers State does not become a safe haven for violent offenders.
He warned: “Perpetrators of violent crimes should take note. The law will catch up with them, no matter how long it takes. Rivers State is not a breeding ground for criminality, and those who attempt to disrupt the peace and security of residents will be decisively dealt with.”
Community Reaction
The killing of Miss Sunny has left the Umuebule community in shock, with residents describing her as a kind-hearted and industrious woman. Some community leaders, while commending the police for the arrest, called for speedy prosecution to ensure justice for the deceased and her grieving family.
The case adds to the growing concern over rising incidents of gender-based violence and domestic-related killings in Nigeria, which authorities have repeatedly vowed to clamp down on through stronger policing and stricter legal measures.
