Soludo’s Aide Condemns Assault on Corps Member in Anambra, Says Vigilante Operatives Arrested
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, has strongly condemned the assault of a female corps member, Jennifer Elobor, by operatives of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, popularly known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group. The incident, which sparked outrage after a video of the attack went viral, showed the operatives beating the corps member and tearing her clothes.

The operatives had reportedly accused Elobor and some of her colleagues of fraud before subjecting her to inhumane treatment.
Operatives Arrested and Facing Discipline
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Emeakayi described the actions of the operatives as “unacceptable and wrong.” He confirmed that the men involved in the assault were immediately arrested and placed under disciplinary review.
“It was not part of their duty to beat up anybody or to strip anybody, which was why we arrested them,” he explained.
According to him, the disciplinary procedure began as soon as the incident came to light. He outlined the process, stating: “According to our practices, when an incident involves our operatives, we arrest them, carry out our preliminary investigations, then get the complainants or the victims involved and our operatives, to determine the level of what action to take and whether it is something we can handle by internal disciplinary measures or something we would have to prosecute.”
Possible Prosecution Ahead
Emeakayi revealed that the operatives have already been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. He added that where a case is fully established against an offender, the next step is to hand them over to the police for prosecution.
“When a case has been established against someone, you arrest the person, then hand him over to the police,” he noted.
The Special Adviser assured the public that the final evaluation of the case is underway and a decision will soon be taken on whether the matter will be handled internally or escalated to the courts.
Public Reaction and Calls for Accountability
The incident has continued to generate public condemnation, with many Nigerians on social media demanding justice for the corps member and urging the state government to send a clear message against abuse of power by security operatives.
Advocates have also emphasised the need for stricter monitoring of vigilante groups across the state to prevent further excesses, arguing that such misconduct undermines their credibility and the public’s trust in community policing.
Emeakayi concluded by reiterating the government’s zero tolerance for abuse, stressing that the operatives’ actions were in direct violation of their mandate to protect lives and property.
