Soludo Halts Arbitrary Traffic Fines, Fixes ₦10,000 Cap Statewide in Anambra

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has ordered an immediate end to arbitrary traffic fines across Anambra State, directing all local authorities to revert to a ₦10,000 standard charge for traffic violations. The directive was announced on October 13, 2025, during an endorsement rally by transportation stakeholders at Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, according to The Bureau News.
Soludo Disbands Unauthorised Taskforces
Governor Soludo declared that all unauthorised taskforces and individuals collecting traffic levies across the state have been disbanded. He said a formal enforcement mechanism would soon be established under due process to handle road offences in a transparent and accountable manner.
“Our transport workers remain major stakeholders in Anambra’s economic transformation,” Soludo said, emphasising that the move is part of his broader efforts to sanitise the transport sector and promote fairness on the roads.
Why Transport Unions Backed the Action
At the event, representatives of major road transport unions praised the governor’s intervention, saying it was long overdue. They expressed frustration over arbitrary fines and harassment by non-state actors who had allegedly exploited motorists under the guise of traffic enforcement.
Union leaders told The Bureau News that the new directive will help curb extortion, ensure uniform enforcement, and rebuild confidence among transport operators and commuters.
Election Context and Governance Continuity
The announcement comes as Governor Soludo, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the upcoming November 8 off-cycle governorship election, continues his campaign tour across Onitsha and other key urban centres.
During his visit, the governor highlighted his administration’s ongoing road infrastructure projects completed over the past three years and assured residents of continued development if re-elected. At the Onitsha Main Market, he was received by large crowds of traders who applauded his urban renewal initiatives.

With the new policy taking effect immediately, motorists in Anambra can expect a more transparent traffic management system under three key directives:
- ₦10,000 Cap: All traffic default fines across the state are now pegged at ₦10,000.
- Clean-Up of Enforcement: All unauthorised taskforces and revenue agents are dissolved.
- Focus on Orderliness: The government says the new system aims to reduce extortion, ease traffic flow, and support commerce across Anambra’s growing transport hubs.
