PDP Suspends Imo and Abia State Chairmen Over Alleged Collusion with APC to Disrupt Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended two of its state chairmen over alleged anti-party activities and collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to derail preparations for the party’s forthcoming national convention.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Forum of PDP State Chairmen held on Tuesday at the party’s FCT secretariat in Abuja, chaired by the forum’s acting secretary, Edward Percy Masha.
Imo and Abia Chairmen Accused of Sabotage
The suspended officials are Austine Nwachukwu, chairman of Imo PDP, and Amah Abraham Nnana, chairman of Abia PDP. According to the forum, the duo allegedly colluded with “external forces” linked to the APC in a plot to disrupt the convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of Edo PDP and now chairman of the forum, alongside Masha, the group condemned the actions of the two chairmen, describing their decision to seek a court injunction to halt the convention as “a betrayal of trust and collective resolve.”
“The forum views this move as an act of disloyalty, calculated to weaken the PDP ahead of its most critical gathering since the 2023 general elections,” the communiqué stated.
Aziegbemi Appointed as Forum Chairman
Following the development, Tony Aziegbemi was officially appointed as the new chairman of the Forum of PDP State Chairmen, replacing the suspended officials.
The meeting, according to the communiqué, also deliberated extensively on issues affecting the unity and stability of the party, the state of the opposition across Nigeria, and strategies for a successful convention.
PDP Accuses APC of “Undemocratic Pressure Tactics”
The forum further condemned what it termed the APC’s desperate attempts to pressure PDP governors, lawmakers, and other stakeholders into defecting, describing it as an “assault on democracy” and a dangerous step toward creating a one-party state.
“The ruling party’s conduct amounts to an assault on democracy and a dangerous move toward creating a one-party state,” the forum declared.
Vote of Confidence and Call for Unity
In a show of internal solidarity, the forum passed a vote of confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and all statutory organs of the party.
It reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding and repositioning the PDP as a credible alternative to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The communiqué concluded by urging party members nationwide to remain calm, united, and steadfast in upholding the PDP’s core values despite “ongoing political distractions and external interference.”
