Sowore Petitions Florida Attorney General Over Alleged Multimillion-Dollar Properties Linked to FCT Minister Wike

Activist Seeks Forfeiture of Properties Allegedly Acquired Illegally

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters founder, Omoyele Sowore, has filed a formal petition before the Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, demanding the forfeiture of multimillion-dollar properties allegedly linked to Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.

A group of five people stands in front of a large, modern house surrounded by palm trees. Two men are dressed formally, while three women are elegantly attired. One man wears a graduation cap and holds a bouquet of flowers.

Akahi News gathered that the petition, dated September 22, 2025, was filed through Sowore’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. It accuses Wike and his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom-Wike of the Nigerian Court of Appeal, of secretly acquiring three lakeside properties in Winter Springs, Florida, valued at over $6 million.

Allegations of Money Laundering and Abuse of Office

According to the petition, the properties were subsequently transferred to the couple’s children under what Sowore’s legal team described as “questionable circumstances.” The activist alleged that Wike, who has been in public office since 1999 with no record of legitimate private business ventures, cannot justify the source of funds for such acquisitions.

The petition further claimed that Florida was being used as a “safe haven” to launder proceeds of corruption, while alleging that Wike, in his capacity as FCT Minister, allocated prime public lands in Abuja to his sons through shell companies and proxies.

Calls for Legal Action and Sanctions

Sowore’s legal representatives urged the Florida authorities to invoke the Florida Money Laundering Act and Forfeiture Act to seize the properties, prosecute those involved, and impose relevant penalties.

In addition, the petition called on U.S. authorities to impose a visa ban on Wike, citing America’s global commitment to anti-corruption efforts. Copies of the petition were also sent to the U.S. Attorney General and the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria for further action.
