SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Community Mourns Passing of Mr. Moses Onyia
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Community has been thrown into mourning following the death of one of its beloved and dedicated members, Mr. Moses Onyia, fondly called “Daddy” by many parishioners.

News of his passing was made known by his daughter, Maria Faustina Onyia, who took to her Facebook page to express the family’s grief and pain over the loss of their father. In her emotional tribute, she described Mr. Onyia as a pillar of faith, a man of prayer, and a devoted father whose legacy of love and guidance has left a lasting imprint on his family and the entire community.
A Legacy of Faith and Guidance
“Losing a loved one is never easy, but holding onto fond memories and finding support will help us navigate this grief,” Maria Faustina wrote.
She recalled her father’s unwavering devotion to God, his constant encouragement to place faith at the centre of life’s challenges, and the pride he often expressed when speaking about his children.
“Daddy, as we fondly call you, Mr. Moses as we jokingly call you, your loss is deeply felt. You left a lasting legacy of love and guidance. We remember your kindness, wisdom, and strength. Your prayer life has always been an inspiration to us, just as your simplicity. We knew you as one who was always proud of us, always saying Umu Onyia. Now, we won’t have anyone boasting of that title,” she added in the heartfelt post.
The tribute also reflected on Mr. Onyia’s role as a prayer warrior who consistently encouraged his family to put God first in all things. His faith, she noted, would now serve as a source of strength as the family comes to terms with the loss.
Community and Media Condolences
The SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Community, known for its vibrant spiritual life, has expressed profound sorrow over Mr. Onyia’s passing. Parishioners described him as a devout Catholic whose life of faith and humility left an indelible mark on the church.
The Akahi News team, which once featured Mr. Onyia in its coverage of parish events, also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for comfort and strength during this painful period.
A Prayer for the Faithful Departed
As the family and parish community mourn, prayers have been offered for the repose of his soul. The family’s statement concluded with the traditional Catholic prayer:
“May the soul of Mr. Moses Onyia and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
The family has urged friends, parishioners, and well-wishers to continue to keep them in their prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
