UNILAG Receives Renovation Boost as Dr. D. K. Olukoya Upgrades Vice-Chancellor, Registrar’s Offices
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has received a significant facelift following the renovation of key administrative offices, courtesy of the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya. The development underscores growing collaboration between distinguished alumni, stakeholders and Nigeria’s foremost tertiary institutions in strengthening learning environments.

Akahi News learnt that the renovation project was formally unveiled on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, when the UNILAG management team, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, received Dr Olukoya during a courtesy visit to the Akoka campus.
Inspection of Renovated Facilities
During the visit, Dr Olukoya inspected the newly refurbished offices of the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar, facilities that have now been transformed to meet modern administrative standards. Akahi News gathered that the upgrades were fully funded by the MFM General Overseer as part of his contribution to institutional development.

The renovation covered the installation of modern office furniture, improved interior décor, enhanced toilet facilities, new doors, chairs and computers, all carefully selected to boost both functionality and visual appeal. Observers noted that the improvements reflect a deliberate effort to create a more efficient and dignified working environment for top university administrators.
UNILAG Management Expresses Appreciation
Receiving the donor, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ogunsola, alongside the Registrar, Mrs V. Abosede Wickliffe, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture. The duo personally conducted Dr Olukoya on a guided tour of the refurbished offices, highlighting specific upgrades and the positive impact they are expected to have on daily administrative operations.

According to university officials, the intervention comes at a time when public universities are increasingly challenged by limited resources, making private support and philanthropy crucial to sustaining infrastructure and service delivery. Akahi News learnt that the management described the renovation as timely and symbolic of shared responsibility in advancing higher education in Nigeria.
Strengthening Stakeholder Support for Education
Analysts believe that such contributions help bridge infrastructural gaps and encourage a culture of giving back among prominent Nigerians. By supporting institutional facilities rather than only personal or religious causes, stakeholders like Dr Olukoya are seen as playing a broader role in national development through education.
Akahi News gathered that UNILAG management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the renovated facilities and fostering partnerships that align with the university’s vision of excellence in teaching, research and community service.
A Model for Public–Private Collaboration
The development has been widely welcomed within the university community, with many viewing it as a model for constructive engagement between universities and well-meaning individuals. Observers note that sustained collaborations of this nature could significantly improve campus infrastructure across Nigeria’s public universities.
As UNILAG continues to position itself as a leading centre of academic excellence, gestures like this are expected to reinforce morale, improve administrative efficiency and project a positive institutional image.
