Tragedy Strikes in Gboko
A tragic incident has left residents of Gboko, Benue State, in shock after a young commercial motorcyclist was brutally killed by unidentified assailants. The attack happened on Wednesday night, 24th September 2025, near Amaco Hotel at about 10:00 p.m.

According to reports gathered by Akahi News, the victim had only recently purchased the Daylong motorcycle, barely a month old, before it was taken away by the attackers after the deadly assault.
Police Yet to Make Arrests
As of the time of this report, no arrests have been made. Residents of the area expressed fears over the rising insecurity in Gboko, calling on authorities to intensify surveillance, particularly at night, to curb criminal activities targeting commercial motorcyclists.
Security sources told Akahi News that investigations have commenced to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen motorcycle.
Rising Insecurity in Benue
The incident adds to growing concerns about rising insecurity in parts of Benue State, where cases of armed robbery, attacks on farmers, and communal clashes have made headlines in recent months.
Local observers say commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as “okada” riders, have become prime targets for criminals due to the high demand for motorcycles in rural communities.
Community Calls for Action
Residents are now appealing to both the police and local vigilante groups to work together to improve safety in Gboko and other affected areas.
“The government must step up security efforts,” one resident told Akahi News. “We cannot keep losing young men like this.”
