In his heartfelt opening address, the Chaplain of the Commission, Rev. Fr. Patrick Ajayi, explained that the programme was birthed from the vision of the Bishop of Osogbo Diocese, Most Rev. John Akinkunmi Oyejola, who is passionate about building a community where young people can discover themselves, share experiences, and connect with one another on matters of life, faith, and marriage.

After the Rosary, the Bible Sharing session was anchored by Rev. Fr. Olawuyi, reading from Matthew 6:25–34. Participants reflected on the passage and shared insights about trusting God for their needs, especially in the area of future relationships. The session allowed for questions and clarifications, which Fr. Olawuyi addressed with pastoral care and wisdom.

An introduction segment followed, where each participant shared their name, parish, and profession. The event drew singles from various professional backgrounds, showcasing the diversity and potential within the Osogbo Catholic youth community.

A major highlight of the day was the matchmaking talk titled “Romeo and Juliet Intervention”, presented by renowned relationship expert Mrs. Mopelola Ogunlusi. She skillfully guided the participants through the concept of matchmaking, comparing traditional parental matchmaking with the modern practice of allowing individuals to choose their partners. She emphasized the need for genuine love, mutual respect, and faith-based discernment in choosing a life partner.

Following a lunch break, Rev. Fr. Patrick Ajayi delivered a compelling and deeply spiritual lecture on the main theme: “My Life, My Faith and Future Marriage.” His teaching encouraged participants to understand the purpose of life through the lens of God’s love and to view marriage as a sacred vocation grounded in faith and responsibility.

The Deepening the Faith session followed, where participants were divided into three groups to reflect on the following thought-provoking questions:

  1. How is my life connected to the God of Love?
  2. My faith in God’s love and my responsibility in love in all my relationships—discuss.
  3. How the life of love can prepare me for my future marriage.

Each group discussed these topics in-depth and returned with rich, practical presentations that reflected a genuine desire to grow in both faith and emotional maturity.

To crown the day’s experience, Rev. Fr. Olawuyi led a powerful intercessory prayer session, committing all the participants to God’s divine plan and asking that the Lord bless them with suitable partners at the right time.

The programme concluded today, Sunday, 18th of May, 2025, with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Michael Olawuyi Olawuni at the Chapel of St. Kizito Pastoral Centre. The Mass was a moment of gratitude, spiritual renewal, and joyful hope for the future.

“Single’s Weekend With The Lord” stands out as a visionary and pastoral response to the needs of young Catholics seeking direction in life and love. It not only equipped participants with spiritual wisdom but also provided a wholesome environment for connection and growth—true to the Church’s mission of forming individuals for strong, faith-driven marriages and families.
